Black and Tan Setter Picture
Description of Black and Tan Setter Dog: Shown is a picture of a beautiful black and fan setter dog also known as Gordon setters! It is said that the setter dogs was evolved from the old "setting spaniel" and its main purpose was that of a working dog! These were long before the days of dog shows! In that time setter dog breeds came in all different colours! *Between 1743 and 1827 the fourth Duke of Gordon established a kennel for working setters at Gordon castle most of the were black, white and tan, black and white, and black and tan! It is believed that the Duke of Gordon had preferred the Gordon setters that were black and tan! If what we are told by history is facts, it could mean the Duke of Gordon would have encouraged the breeding of the Gordon setters that was the black and tans, means that without any doubts, it was the 4th Duke of Gordon who developed the black and tan setters or Gordon setters working ability in making the breed become famous! It has been said that in the first stud book of the the English kennel club covering the years from 1859 to1874 there were a total of 126 black and tan setters listed! The English kennel club did not recognised the breed until the 1st January 1924 before they eventually accepted the name of Gordon setter dog as a registered breed!
